Moisture Movement MDF vs Other Materials?
How does moisture movement in MDF compare to, for example, particle board and OSB?
I'm partly asking out of pure curiosity. Then I have a practical problem as I need an unbroken approximately 5-meter long window reveal. That is the part that should sit at the top of the windows. It's a long window section, in other words. How the heck do I manage this in the best way? It will probably move and gap at the joints?
Is MDF less prone to swell in moisture compared to a regular particle board? A particle board really does move a lot. There are certainly different particle boards. But generally speaking, particle boards seem to move quite a bit.

For reveals, I wouldn't use chipboard or OSB...O Olf Oggler said:How does moisture movement in MDF compare to, for example, chipboard and OSB?

Either MDF or joinery pine depending on how the final result should be...
I usually cut a groove into both joint ends of the reveal and glue in a biscuit... then it holds well...
It wasn't my intention to use OSB for reveals. But I'm still curious about the moisture movement in that board.
The question is what moves the least. Regular wood in the grain direction, or MDF. Maybe I should fix that long reveal in solid wood instead.
