Have started renovating a room when I discovered that I had moisture in a corner. Initially thought it was my foundation or drainage but localized it to a balcony door.

It's not very damp but there is a certain smell. My question is how I should proceed now. The balcony door should be replaced, of course. But what do I do about the moisture? Does it need to dry first? Just replace and fix the problems and then let it dry?

Tips?

  • Moisture damage in a corner near a balcony door, showing decay and peeling paint with nearby green plants.
  • Water damage on floor and wall by a balcony door, showing mold and peeling wallpaper.
  • Damp damage on a wall corner with peeling paint and moisture stains, adjacent to a wooden floor.
What is under the plastic mat?

Also check carefully that the water can drain off the concrete ledge under the threshold sill. The concrete ledge looks suspiciously flat and there is likely a risk that the water flows under the metal into the facade.

Stefan: Concrete, so it's all good.

Mexitegel: I think so too, need to completely loosen and seal with something.

No, no not just seal. You must ensure that the water can drain out. The simplest way is probably to render a small slope and raise the patio door 1-2 cm. If that doesn't work, you'll have to chisel away a small part and plaster.

I was unclear! The idea is to clear everything out and redo including a new slope in such cases.
