I am building a new bathroom in an old house with wood wool insulation in the floor. Now I have shoveled out the wool and am thinking of insulating with something lighter, can I use mineral wool even if it connects to the wood wool around it? Or is there another alternative for insulation?

Mineral wool should work well. How thick were you planning to insulate and what is underneath?

Cellulose works fine too

In an intermediate floor like in this case, there are no problems with mixing saw/chip shavings and mineral wool.

Why do you want to switch to something lighter? If it is an intermediate floor, you want mass for sound insulation.

Is it an intermediate floor?

If it's a mid-floor beam...
Do you think it was too heavy?

Unfortunately, it will be more echoey now.

But it's fine to have mineral wool and sawdust mixed, both in the same compartment or in different compartments.

If it's a crawl space beam (torpargrund)...
You can save some heating costs by switching to mineral wool.
You can mix MU and sawdust in various ways.
If you are unlucky, you may encounter moisture and mold problems if the moisture balance is near the critical point because the sawdust can buffer moisture a bit during seasonal changes, which MU cannot.

You can switch to cellulose. But it's hardly of any use, as all the properties are very similar to those of sawdust. In other words, you might as well leave the sawdust in place and save time and money.

It is really only in an attic floor where you can take advantage of the sawdust's better hygroscopic ability. As for sound-reducing properties, the difference between sawdust and medium-weight mineral wool is negligible. In both cases, the density is far too low for a substantial effect. However, it is important not to fill the compartments completely but to have air above.

I have removed the shavings to reinforce the joists and run pipes for the new bathroom.
It's a floor joist, crawl space below.

Any tips on where in Stockholm one can buy cellulose insulation?

Seems like the best option or lin
