Hello

I was planning to install an interior door between two rooms in my garage building but was surprised to encounter the crossing metal bands in the attached image. Can someone enlighten me on what these are?

The garage was built around 1993 and consists of two rooms. Hipped roof. The studs in the image are 45x95.

Best regards
Opening in wall with metal cross-bracing straps in a garage, surrounded by wooden studs. Insulation visible on the right side.

A guess is that they account for wind loads in the construction.

There are strävor to brace/stabilize the building.

And the boards on that wall are also striving, so there shouldn't be any panic about removing the bands. Seems like a bit of belts and suspenders. Might also be sewn on while waiting for the wallboards.

Yes, they were probably there during the construction to align/support the framework.

My KA demanded similar bracing when we built our garage. Even though we had installed exterior drywall on all the walls.

The metal straps are gone now, but the garage still stands :)
