I have cast 2 gate posts with a top area of 45x45 cm. Now I want to add a metal roof to them. How do I do that? I want to have a slope on the roof. Do you build a wooden frame underneath or how is it done? Right now, the posts are flat at the top. But I want a metal roof that has 4 sides if you understand.

Best regards, Calle

The easiest might be to draw a sketch and have a tinsmith manufacture these.
You should not have any wooden frame under the metal.

The easiest way is to go to any hardware store and buy it :-)

It is usually called a "stolphatt" or "stolplock". The difficult part might be finding one that fits 45x45. The most common dimensions for posts are 70x70 or 95x95.

We are talking 45 CENTIMETERS and not millimeters.
I hardly think the hardware store has 450 x 450 pole caps in their standard assortment.

Sometimes things move too fast :-)

Absolutely your suggestion about the plåtslagaren then. With inner measurements (the outer measurements of the post) and height, a plåtslagare can fix it in no time.

Well, I guess a tinsmith is needed, but I have the metal and everything at home since we replaced the roof on the house. And I'm stubborn, so I want to do everything myself. ;)

Practice with paper and cut, fold, glue

Then it's "just" a matter of folding up the sheet metal and sealing the seam :wow:

Then, when you're tired, depressed, and completely crazy, you call a sheet metal worker.
