Material around fireplace, distance?
Hello everyone!
Can't find an answer to this specific question.
I have a chimney breast with a new fireplace insert. I'm planning to create a smooth white surface around it that blends with the white-painted plaster wall in the rest of the room. I've been advised to use minerit. But question 1, it's hard to search for, is it called something else nowadays? And question 2, does the entire chimney breast need to be covered with minerit, or is it just a certain area nearest to the fireplace? How far from the fireplace can you have plaster?

Is the chimney brick-built? Then you can plaster it.S Sir Duke said:Hello everyone!
Can't find an answer to just this.
I have a chimney with a new stove insert. I want to create a smooth white surface around it that blends with the white-painted gypsum wall in the rest of the room. I've been advised to use minerit. But question 1, it's hard to search for, is it called something else nowadays? And question 2, does the entire chimney need to be dressed with minerit, or is it just a certain area nearest the stove? How far from the stove can you have gypsum?
Otherwise, you need to read what the manufacturer writes about the distance to combustible materials. Generally, it's 50 cm from uninsulated parts.

There was also some information about open fireplace installation in that document.
Ok. Just so I don't misunderstand:S sinuslinus said:
It's a stove that is fully recessed, flush with the chimney. Should I therefore have fiber cement board around it extending 50 cm to the sides? How much in height, is it 100 cm?
Thanks, however, I want to avoid masonry and have a smooth wall all the way up, the chimney aligns with a wall next to it. So I'm thinking plasterboard. But it must be something like minerit near the stove. The question is how close.J jonaserik said:
Minnerit should be able to handle it, placed on the wall behind and on the wall behind kitchen stoves, but you still need to build up edges and other things to attach it, you can use steel studs, the boards must be secured otherwise everything moves if it's hanging in the air, not visible now but you should have a cleaning hatch above

Might reconsider.....better to have the wall plastered around the chimney and then find a way to transition from wall to plaster somehow.
