Managed to acquire 1200 units of solid bricks (at 1 krona each) from a chimney from the 1920s, which we plan to use for building our own chimney. The question is what type they are, i.e., fireproof, frost-resistant, or something else? The bricks are dark purple in color.
Does anyone know?

Best regards,
David

As I understand it, there are three different types of bricks in a chimney nowadays. Firebrick in a layer around the fire, frost-resistant above the roof, and regular solid otherwise. The strange thing is that everything seems to be the same type of brick from this chimney.

David

Thanks for the answers.
We bought thin firebricks to place in a layer closest to the fire anyway. Cost a lot! >:(
Above the chimney, we will run frost-free. Otherwise, we will go straight with the old brick. The chimney master liked that we would reuse the brick for the chimney. ;)

Best regards,
David
