Hello.

I have a barn with metal sheeting where a small part of the roof blew off in the latest storm (about 2m²). The sheeting fared well and there were no major holes where the original nails were, but a few tears became slightly larger (about 1-1.5cm).

The fact that there weren't any major damages in the sheeting makes me think that there weren't many nails left holding it onto the roof, and I have noticed nails starting to pop out in other parts of the roof as well. So, the plan is to go over the entire roof this summer and replace what's loose.

Since there is absolutely no budget to redo the entire roof, I'm considering replacing the nails that were pulled out with screws instead.

Since there will be a few places with larger tears and regular farmer screws won't cover the entire hole, I'm thinking if I could make a slightly larger custom variant.

I'm considering if combining these two (see images below) would provide good coverage for the holes?

I've also looked into Renovation screws 6.5x75, but those have a head that protrudes higher, and it seems there's a risk of snow and other things starting to pull out even the screws?

The screws I'm planning to use are Wood Screws WAF 6 x 80, and the washers are 6.3x19x2.8, which seem to be the same size as the renovation screws, but they protrude less.

What do you think, is it a good idea, or should I go directly with the renovation screws?

How did it go?
The first thought is that it lacks threads closest to the head.
Will this solution be cheaper?
I'm considering the thicker variant (6.5mm instead of 4.8mm) of the farm screw.
I'm unsure about the length - but as long as possible, perhaps is good?

It would have been cheaper to buy the washer and screw separately and for my part, the old roof is screwed at the tops, so it wouldn't have mattered that it wasn't threaded closest to the head.
In my case, it ended up with me buying a 100 pack of screws at kbygg since the skylift was booked and I couldn't wait for an order, but I think the renovation screw is a good alternative and not much more expensive in the end.

I am facing the same challenge, however, the sheet has not blown down yet, but several nails have come loose and since I have already hammered them down once before, it's time for something else.

I bought 1000 renovation screws 6.5x75 with a 19 mm washer, now it's just a matter of getting up on the roof.

Regarding the screws being pulled up by snow, the risk is completely negligible, then you have bigger problems with the carpentry under the sheet.

So, a little over a year later - How did it go for you? I need to fix a leaking metal roof on the summer cottage and I assume this is the type of screw I need.

Do you remember where you bought these?

There's nothing wrong with the screws (so just go ahead) except that the price suggests there's gold in them😆

Bought them here, quick delivery and no problems

Yes... And they seem to be using some sort of armored transport for these gold screws. 250 (!) bucks in shipping!
