I'm going to make a new wooden bench look old and worn out, thinking about how to create "natural" cracks in the wood. Does anyone know how to do this? Will cracks form if I place it in water or what happens then? Any other tips for creating patina?

I used it to create a driftwood feel on some planks that were to become welcome/name signs. Tried different types of sandpaper. The nylon pad was easy to control material removal with and to bring out the grain and wear to somewhat resemble what you see on driftwood. Turned out quite okay. Hard to create cracks with the pad though, so maybe not exactly what you are asking for.
