Hello!

I'm going to run a network cable to the garage. The problem is finding an easy way to get the cable "out" of the house without causing any issues. After a lot of thinking, my latest theory is that it's simply easiest to make a hole in the wall. d^_^b

On the outside, there's mexitegel, and on the inside, I have drywall. What exists in between, other than electrical outlets and cables, I don't know.

My idea is to drill a hole the size of an electrical conduit (VP or whatever it's called, the ones in the wall), insert a conduit, and then seal (silicone? PL400?) between the conduit and the brick on the outside.

Is this a bad idea? Can it be done this way? Is there an easier method?

That sounds good, the tip is to think about where you make the hole, so you can avoid seeing the mess later. Perhaps behind a skirting board for example, or if you have a closet or something to start from..
Remember to seal between the vp-pipe and the network cable too.

Yes, I have considered a whole bunch of other options, from pulling the cord out the same way the phone cable comes in (the hole will be right next to it) to routing the cord via the attic and out through the attic board, but I have had to reject everything for one reason or another :)

What I was worried about was destroying any layer of insulation of some kind that might exist between the brick and the drywall. But as long as you seal well on the outside, it should be fine. The house is from '84.

Anyway, I will get a concrete drill bit of the correct dimension and make a hole here!

keep in mind that the hole should tilt outward, so that any water cannot run in along the pipe

Can't you try running wireless to the garage?

Unfortunately not. It's my server that will be out there, and wireless won't cut it. Among other things, I stream movies over the network, and it needs to be fast.
