I understand that when ordering home delivery, it might not be the same as selecting the items yourself, so I usually add a little extra. I just ordered a mix of lumber, including 1 piece of 8m long finger-jointed 45x195 C24. It becomes expensive/unreasonable to order 2 (100% extra) of these when you only need one, as they are quite pricey. I receive the delivery and notice a continuous crack in the middle section, approximately 60 cm on one side and about 30 cm on the other.
I thought about trying to file a complaint with Beijer. How would you handle this?
If you don't want it, you can just send it back. According to the distance selling law, you have a 14-day right of withdrawal. However, I think you'll have to pay for the shipping yourself..
When exercising the right of withdrawal, I must cover the return shipping costs myself. In the case of a complaint, I probably don't need to worry about that part.
If I interpret traguiden.se correctly, through cracks are not allowed on C24, only allowed at the end grain and then a maximum of 15 cm. This one is in the middle and up to 60 cm.
I had contacted my seller at Beijer and asked if it was supposed to look like that. I did it myself when I received one (out of four) 195x45 that looked like a propeller (if it was flat at one end, it stuck up 3-4cm in one of the corners at the other end). The seller wondered how I wanted to proceed; I didn't need it now, so I got credited for the corresponding amount on the invoice. In general, Beijer is very good to deal with when it comes to complaints, but timber, they don't know if you ask me.
