Hello, I'm considering lowering the ceiling in my living room, about 23 square meters, and then installing spotlights.

Currently, I have a plaster ceiling, so my question is: Do I need to tear down the current plaster ceiling and reframe anew, or can I frame on the existing plaster ceiling and then attach new plasterboards on those frames? I'm looking for a smooth and durable solution

Best regards

Of course, you can install studs and plasterboard on top of the current ceiling, but it will lower the room height by at least 5 cm.

There are likely spotlights that are approved for installation in plasterboard without needing much air around them. Do you have the possibility to run cables in/above the existing plaster ceiling?

I was thinking of using 45x45mm studs and 11-13 mm plasterboards on them. No, I can't run cables above the existing ceiling. The studs that will be installed, they must be attached to the studs above the existing ceiling. Then you have to find all the studs etc....?

If the roof is in good condition, I would never put in so much work for a few spotlights, not in a living room!
