I am going to build a new fence for a basement entrance (see attached image for reference). I'm considering 28 x 45 fence slats horizontally. But how do I attach them?

The current fence is attached to metal posts which are in OK condition. But I don't really see how I can attach a bunch of narrow fence slats to them.

Does anyone have a clever solution in stock?

  • Outdoor basement stairwell with metal posts and old wooden railing, surrounded by plants, next to a brick wall.
  • Entryway with a brick wall and metal poles holding a wooden fence beside a small garden. Yellow flowers and greenery line the cobblestone path.
  • Old wooden fence attached to a metal post with bolts. Fence slats show signs of weathering and moss. Background includes a stone structure and greenery.
  • Pressure-treated wood plank 28x45 mm for fencing, available at Byggmax with product code 08728045.
  • A wooden patio fence with horizontal slats is shown surrounding an outdoor seating area. Metal posts support the fence.
Screw a slat standing in the post to which you attach your horizontal slats.

Screw a vertical strip onto the post that you attach your horizontal strips to.
Sounds reasonable.
What's the best way to screw it on?
Drill into the post and attach the strip with a nut?

  • A wooden rib is clamped against a metal post with a bolt, next to a cobblestone path and brick wall in the background.
With carriage bolt in the holes you already have in the post
