Hello!
I'm seeking advice on what to do with our entrance steps. It's a concrete staircase with tiles. This past winter/spring, some of the tiles came off due to the ice and snow melting and freezing alternately. I also saw that there seems to be at least one more layer of tiles underneath.

The question is, what should be done? It would be best to remove everything and redo it properly, but that's too big of a project right now. Should I just try to reattach the tiles? If so, with what? Mortar or adhesive? And new grout? Which one? Thankful for any tips.

  • Concrete entrance staircase with loose tiles due to winter damage, showing a row of missing or damaged tiles, surrounded by intact tiles and a potted plant.
  • Concrete entrance stairs with loose tiles and surrounding potted plants, showing repair needs due to weather damage.
  • Broken tiles on a concrete entry step, some removed revealing underlying layers, with surrounding foliage and railing visible.
It won't last long to just stick them on with fix on that surface. But if you're planning a major renovation next year, just throw them on with fix now.
