Looking for thinner mouldings - tips? (making "mirrors" on doors)
I want to imitate the door in the attached image. I want to create these panels with some kind of molding, doesn't have to be wood/hardboard, plastic is also an option. Moldings available in stores are a bit too thick and stick out too much, any idea how I can solve this? Maybe I can think outside the box and come up with something clever that I've come across that might work? (I already have smooth doors and just need the moldings)

It should be possible to have the moldings planed at the lumber yard, my local Beijer did it.

You mention board yourself (e.g. masonite), a typical thickness is 3.2mm, could that be something? or what thickness are you actually looking for?
Then you have to hide the edges of the board where you might see the structure on the back, but that should be possible.

I have limited tools and space, so I would prefer to avoid cutting and planing each piece, looking for trim that is as "finished" as possible. Something quick, just cut, glue, and maybe paint. Maybe you can glue up 800 window scrapers
...quite sure there's something clever you can use.
Advertising studios use PVC-Foam sheets http://www.gop.se/produkter/industri/pvc/pvc-foam/ which are available in white but also in several other colors. Thickness from 1mm and up to 20 mm. Should work to glue and then paint with a suitable color.
