On our dock in the Stockholm archipelago, a number of logs lying against the water from land, not the actual stone piers out in the water, have crumbled after about 30 - 40 years. See the picture, it's worse now.

Since our island was hit by storm Alfrida, there are quite a lot of logs lying in the forest, spruce and pine, and I wonder if I could use those logs for this?

If so, how and should they be treated in some way? ...and how long will they last?

In that case, use gran, it handles the lake better.
