Load-bearing when installing double doors
Hello!
Very grateful for an answer to this question, as we've already started making a small cut in the wall
We have received a building permit to install a double door on the long side of a 1-story extension, in a wall where there is currently no doorway. The doors are a total of 1.40 in width and 2.10 in height, and the extension where the door will be placed measures 4 (gable) x 8 (long side) meters. The roof is covered with concrete tiles and insulation.
According to a test on Optimeras' website, a laminated beam of 45 x 145 mm, C24 should be sufficient. However, my better half is worried and doesn't dare to proceed, while we need all the space we can get above the door to fit the transom window...
Extremely grateful for qualified advice so we can sleep well at night without worrying that the roof will collapse like an overripe banana under the snow. (Snow zone 2)
Best regards,
Tove

Probably read your measurements wrong.
Do I understand correctly that the door is on the side that is 8m and the house's width is 4m there?
If so, it may match with 145mm but I would then put 2 of 145 next to each other, so as not to be too close to the boundary.

The best thing is if you can pinpoint how the door opening aligns with the trusses. This results in completely different outcomes regarding the beam's dimensioning. With a bit of luck, you may get by with a rather modest structure.
