Hello!

I have a small problem that's hanging over me, and I would like to get some people's insight into this. I have torn down a load-bearing wall, a timbered one, that is in the middle of the house. I bought a laminated beam to support it with, but when I took down parts of the wall, I saw that there are already 2 timber logs running on top of each other, supporting the opening I made. I have left about 60-70 cm of the timber wall at each end, which currently supports these load-bearing logs. I went up to the attic to see if I could spot any joints in the roof trusses, but they were intact. I also haven't noticed any settling for two days. I, along with two others, have concluded that sawing out these logs and fitting in a laminated beam is completely unnecessary work. I also want to keep these beams visible to retain the old feeling. Am I completely wrong? Should I support the wall with the laminated beam, or is it not an issue? I don't really know the dimensions of the logs, but they are substantial. I want as many opinions as possible, so don't hesitate to write what you think. Thanks in advance!

Best regards, Pelle

No one who can give me a little confidence? Or the other way around... =)

Sounds a bit half-baked, pictures maybe?

It's been resolved. I had an experienced carpenter with me yesterday who looked at the problem. We didn't need to do any reinforcement but for safety's sake, I will reinforce the two rafters in question up in the attic instead.
