Hello

Can you help me determine if the "hjärtväggen" is a load-bearing wall or not?
The building description submitted by the house owner to the city office states that only the exterior walls are load-bearing.
But Brahus says it is very unlikely that it is not load-bearing?
We want to remove the part highlighted in red in the floor plan.
What do you think?

  • Blueprint of a house showing elevations and floor plans, with a section labeled "rödmarkerade" indicating a wall under question for being load-bearing.
  • Plan drawing highlighting a wall in red, raises question if it's load-bearing. Surrounding areas include a living room, kitchen, and a bedroom.
  • Building specification list with a section about load-bearing walls, highlighting "exterior wall" and "interior wall," indicating structural concerns.
Hello and welcome to the Byggahus forum!

The partition wall is definitely load-bearing. The house is about 9 meters wide and the upper floor is finished, so there's no doubt about it. If you want to remove part of the partition wall, it must be replaced by a beam. I'm doubtful that it can work well over such a long span. The dimensions of the beam will be very large. You might need to consider a pillar somewhere in the middle. I think you should reconsider the floor plan. Large open spaces don't always work out well.
