I will build a new patio at my vacation home and have a roof that is 1.5m over the patio that is connected to the house roof. Currently, there are four posts supporting the roof, but I'm considering if one post in the middle would be enough or, ideally, no posts at all, except those on the sides? The total distance is 5.6m from wall to wall, so it would be 2.8m between the posts. What do you think?
I'm not a builder and my wife says I storm-proof everything (admittedly a sailor but still). I wouldn't have removed any post. Possibly redone how it looks to fit the future deck. I probably would have supported the roof as well while redoing a post. But I doubt the house will collapse if you remove something.
The problem is not the posts, as a single post could handle the weight. The problem is the beam that rests on the posts. It is likely designed for four supports/posts, especially if there is a joint in the beam. Additionally, it also somewhat depends on the actual attachment to the house.
Therefore, more images and more information are needed to be able to answer your question.
It's not as simple as the truss going all the way out? That is, no joint at all at the house wall? Then it's hardly a danger to remove the posts. But you can reduce the weight at the end by removing the beam. Some pictures would probably help.
