Hello!

I am going to replace an interior door and since the house is from the late 40s, the frame also needs to be replaced. After dismantling the old frame, I see that the current door opening is about 1.5 cm too low for the new frame to fit.
My question is whether I can just take a reciprocating saw and cut it open? Or could there be something load-bearing directly above the door frame, or would that be closer to the ceiling (it's about 30 cm from the door opening to the ceiling)? What is visible in the door opening is an approximately 3 cm wide stud that spans the entire door opening, and this is surrounded by two thinner "planks." As mentioned, is there a risk in cutting a bit off that?

Grateful for any help.

Hi, without having seen any pictures, I doubt there is anything load-bearing above your door.
I would take the tiger and cut up 1.5cm and notch out, but if you don't "dare" to take a chance, you can plane down the frame a little on the top side..
Good luck!
