Hi,

I am about to remove a large window (2.7m wide) that is located between two brick pillars, an extension built in the 60s. Above the window and between the pillars, there is a beam that seems to be made of some lightweight concrete, or at least plastered with it (see pictures). From the beam into the house, there are also concrete slabs that the upper floor rests on.

When I started to remove the window, I got a bit worried that the frame might somehow be load-bearing, however, there is space between the frame and the beam (it is sealed).

I haven't found any drawings of how it is built and therefore wanted to ask if there are any theories on how this is constructed and the beam's material? Is there, for example, a risk that the frame could be load-bearing?

The frame is definitely not load-bearing. If it doesn't even have contact, it's not even possible.
Drawings are often available from the municipality. Usually, you can order them online.
It could be a lightweight concrete beam since it is plastered, or a clad steel beam.

I agree that it doesn't seem possible. But I still got anxious, maybe shouldn't think so much... 😁 Have continued the demolition. Will check with the municipality if they have any drawings. Thanks for the answer.
