Hello,

A relative had a leak from an old radiator on the second floor where the water ran through the floor and down into the ceiling below. The room where the leak happened has linoleum, so the water continued until it reached the closet where the linoleum ends and the wood begins, and then it ran through.

Now we have opened a part of the ceiling and emptied the part of the insulation material that felt damp and will let it stand open for perhaps a couple of weeks so that the rest of the moisture disappears.

I will buy a moisture meter from Kjell or Biltema and measure the moisture level in the meantime, but I don't know what value is acceptable? So my question is...

1. What is the acceptable moisture limit when I measure in the ceiling boards and the insulation material?
2. Is there anything that needs to be done from the room where the leak occurred? The handyman didn't think so. He thought it was enough from the lower floor. I personally thought it wouldn't be a bad idea to at least remove the linoleum just to be safe?

Thanks

  • Ceiling with visible water damage and a small light fixture; paint is peeling and discolored due to recent leakage from a heater above.
  • Ceiling with a removed section showing insulation and noticeable water damage stains, revealing exposed wooden boards and peeling paint around the area.
  • Ceiling with a section removed, exposing wooden beams and insulation, showing water damage from an upstairs radiator leak.
