We are going to build a deck and I am going to calculate how big it should be. We want to have as little waste as possible and thought of using the ready-made lengths but I can't find how long they are, only the price per meter. Does anyone know what lengths the beams and deck boards come in?

It varies depending on what is available. Max is 5.4 but more common lengths are 3.6, 4.2, and 4.8. Available in intervals of 30 cm.

I don't think you can minimize the price regarding spill. Usually, the standard length is much cheaper and then the spill is what it is.

The same lengths as usual timber, i.e., between 3 meters and 5.4 meters with 30 cm increments.

But what the store happens to have in stock is a whole different story.
If you're buying a lot, it usually works out to order exactly the length you want and have the timber at home the following week. That service should be available at any decent lumber yard. Of course, not if you only want 10 boards.

Keep in mind that many of the boards might be a bit rough at the ends, so don't optimize too narrowly. Pressure-treated wood is of the lowest possible quality, it has to be so for the liquids to penetrate well, which means more rough boards.

Thank you very much for the answers. The idea is that we will buy standard lengths. I have just drawn up the deck itself and there will be minimal waste. I will only need to cut off 10-20 cm per plank or beam. So I feel satisfied. We will probably order the timber in advance so we get what we want. It will be a few meters :o)

have even seen 10 cm steps in falling length.
