Hello!
I have a house in western Jämtland built in 1946...
The house has a wooden facade and a front porch made of concrete or similar material. Now parts of the old concrete have come off on the underside of the porch, and there is a white powdery streak on the edge that seems to have absorbed water. The problem essentially occurs more or less directly under where the facade meets the porch.

I have a builder who said he is almost certain it's lime that has leached from the old concrete.

How would you go about sealing between the wooden facade and the porch? I'm thinking that water/melting snow needs to be directed outward somehow. I'm considering whether some kind of rubber mat could be placed and attached a bit up on the facade. If so, I'm thinking of cutting away a portion of the facade and then covering with a couple of boards at the bottom.

I'm not quite following, but do you want to protect the top of the terrace? It's common to place a flashing or something similar at the bottom of the facade to keep water away. Feel free to upload a picture or two ;)

Well, the most important thing is to stop any more water from getting in and damaging the basement ceiling… or causing moisture in the wall. The water must be diverted away from the house's wooden facade and off the deck.
