Laying stone on mesh on wall: what groundwork is required?

We have a rendered leca wall where the render is coming off. We are considering knocking off the render and instead placing stone that sits on mesh as a surface covering instead of the render, see example at the top right of the image below:



What preparation work is required for this to work? What material should be used to set the stone? Very grateful for wise opinions!

Unfortunately, I don't have good answers to your questions, but I'd like to bump the thread for you and hope that someone else can help.

What do you mean by "putsen går av"? Just that it's coming away from the substrate (lecablock)

Thank you! Yes, the plaster is coming off from the lecablocken. It is visible for example at the top left and right in the image above.
