Knock down the M-ex brick before new render, a must??
Hello, my contractor says he needs to knock down the mexitglet on our house before applying new plaster on the entire house. The house was built in the 80s and the facade is in good condition with not many cracks, etc. Now I'm wondering if this is a must or if you can apply plaster directly on it, as it would be quite a significant additional cost... Thank you for your help, Malin

Well, no one knows how the brick is attached... but if you want to avoid costs, then the easiest thing is probably to just leave the brick alone?
I know a similar job that my friend's construction company did last year, I think. It was about a brick house that had been painted with a slurry paint. They first smoothed the entire facade with something called adhesive mortar to get an even surface and then a thin plaster was rolled over the surface. It turned out really nice!! The neighbor next door had an identical house so you could really see the before/after effect. The neighbor's house looked really rundown while the plastered house looked as if it was newly built. I can probably get some pictures and more info if you're interested.
If it was built in the 80s, then there shouldn't be anything under the mexin to plaster? Or are you going to insulate and plaster? This would add value.
Hello, my builder says that to avoid moisture damage, the best thing to do is to knock down the bricks, what do you think about that?
what should the plaster be applied to?
it's possible to plaster on mexitegel, but when the builder can't trust the underlying construction, something else must be done.
if the builder is serious, they want you to have the best and for it to last.
now with all the blogging and forums, they need to do the best for the customer if they want to last in the long run.
