I'm in the process of tearing down a load-bearing wall and had a building consultant over for tips on how to proceed. The option I'm considering now is to place a glulam beam next to the existing stud. But how do I best/easily join the glulam beam with the old stud? Regular screws? French wood screws? Carriage bolts? Drill and bolt them together? How does the attachment to the post work? Do you use standard angle brackets or are there stronger ones? I want to avoid putting in a new post that would then be visible and instead use the existing one that's inside the wall.

I hope I'm not too unclear with my questions?
It should be added that the wall to be supported (is that what it's called?) is only about 2.5m, so there aren't too large forces/weights it needs to support. Single-story house with a shed roof.

Depending on how the wall/ceiling looks, it might be possible to "stamp" up the ceiling, tear down the existing beams and install the larger glued laminated beam, then remove the stamping.
