Hello!!
During the ongoing renovation, I have found something and I have no idea what it is... maybe you can help me... picture attached.

  • A small protruding object in a wall, possibly a metal fixture, with a screw and nut, on a textured surface beside a rough concrete floor.
What do you have on the other side of the wall?

Looks like a tie rod used to hold together old houses.

In the image, the end of a screw with nuts is visible. To understand its function, you need to look at the other side of the wall.

If the square washer is loose, it's no longer useful, but contrary to what others say, it's possible to get sight on the other side of the wall. You might not know what the wall stands on; it could be sloping rock and a form of retention between the wall and rock during the construction of the house.

Nothing

But can the iron be seen on the other side, and is it loose, rattling in the wall.

Could there have been a gun safe or a vault that was anchored to the wall?

Maybe. As I said, I believe it has no function.

If nothing is on the other side, then it's probably just to be removed...

The other side is an outer wall, plastered.

Yes.

If it's stuck, then you need to cut it off…

You can loosen the nuts, they are locked against each other, and check the bolt to see if it is loose. Do not hit it, as this could potentially create a large hole in the outer plaster. It is best to use a grinder to cut it a bit inside the wall on the inside and plaster/fill the resulting hole.
