is it safe to use masonite that has been cold?
I have been hunting for masonite boards for the inside of the house.. Found someone who has a bunch lying in his barn from a few years back.
How does masonite work, do they absorb moisture? Is it safe to take boards that have been stored in a cold storage for so long?

No problem, they absorb moisture but also dry....
what will they be used for?
They should be damp when nailed up, which makes them shrink on the wall and not bulge.

The house is built like this...and it's more manly than wimpy plaster..
No, but I don't feel like tearing down all the walls when I just need to close up an opening...
Besides, I've read that it's an advantage to mix materials when it comes to soundproofing. Many interior walls will have plaster on one side and masonite on the other. - So don't worry, much more plaster than masonite will be purchased.
