Hello.

I am planning to remove a row of wardrobes whose back has acted as an interior wall. I will build a simple interior wall instead, 3 meters long with one side against the outer wall and the other ending in the room.

I want OSB on both sides of the wall (for TV and pictures). So it should be:

Gypsum + OSB + studs + OSB + gypsum.

Should I go for 70-mm studs then? That should give a total thickness of 125 mm. Perhaps a bit too thick, but is it wise to build a wall with 45 mm studs?

The plan is steel tracks on the floor and ceiling and wood in the standing parts.

I built a wall just like yours, I used 45 mm studs...

Ah, I see!

It definitely feels much better to come with a decimeter wall. OSBn gives you 30 mm of "wood" as well.

Thanks!

We also use 45 mm studs for smaller walls with OSB+ plasterboard.
Our old doors, which we want to keep, fit nicely in walls as thick as they become then.

The only downside may be that it gets cramped if you want to have two electrical sockets facing each other on opposing sides. In that case, the boxes don't quite fit.

if you are unsure about 45mm studs, you can replace OSB with plyfa to make it strong "even though" you are only using 45mm studs

We did a lot of LB-hus when I worked in elmicklarsvängen, the interior walls were 45*45 with single gypsum, papprigt was the word said Bull... but with something additional behind the gypsum, it feels like it could hold together. Personally, I would choose 70 plus insulation in the wall, I don't like that hollow resonance sound.

Put insulation in my wall too... No resonance to speak of.

How did you run the electricity? The metal studs have pre-drilled holes.

It feels a bit harsh to drill 18 mm holes in a 45 stud. Run it above? Or just drill and be happy. The OSB will provide the strength?

We drilled, when a couple of pipes had to go across, there wasn't much left of the beam.

Yes, and in case anyone was wondering:

There was no wall. It became an incredibly beautiful and open space instead. Totally satisfied with half the job.
