I am going to insulate a sloped roof and plan to add some battens to accommodate about 400mm of insulation. I have already made an air gap. What is best, to build directly on the rafters? Or cross them with new battens, like you do in walls to reduce thermal bridges, vertically and horizontally?

There is 120cc between the rafters. Maybe it's not possible to lay them crosswise because you can't screw that much? I was thinking of laying them at 60cc.

Thanks in advance!

I think it's a good idea to cross, especially in the ceiling, as it is the most important insulation in a house. Additionally, you reduce the center-to-center measurement to something useful when you are installing ceiling material. You can't really hang drywall directly on cc-1200. But it depends a bit on what type of interior ceiling you are considering.
