Hi, I am planning to move my cast iron stove closer to the wall which is made of wood. I read somewhere that you can use an 8mm steel plate 25mm from the wall as fire protection, but I wonder if anyone knows if heat-resistant insulation (that withstands 1800 degrees) against the wall and then a thinner plate would work just as well?
Here are a couple of variants described. I don't understand why a sheet would need to be 8 mm thick. It sounds heavy to put up.

I have understood that it is sometimes better to radiate the heat away instead of isolating it from the wall.
Also, with an air gap behind, you get convection in the gap that dissipates heat...
When you insulate, the temperature will rise over time in the material behind, unless it is transported away via convection, that is.

And the sheet metal is supposed to be that thick, I don't really know, but it said you could have steel sheet/fiber cement board that should be at least 8mm, maybe it could be thinner sheet metal?
