I'm considering putting wood paneling on my brick house. (Many say I'm an idiot because brick is maintenance-free), anyway, I think wood looks nicer so I don't care if I have to paint it now and then.

My question is simple: How do I do it? Should I just drill in a few battens and nail the paneling on, or is it more complicated than that?

I think it is more complicated than that....
Wood moves slightly with varying humidity but brick does not. Can it cause problems?

This is what I'm doing right now!

Changing the facade on a house with plastered ytong...

50 mm foam directly against the plaster, horizontal battens 28x70 mm attached to the foam.
Vertical z panel attached to the 28mm battens.

If you don't want the insulation, place a spacer of plastic or equivalent under the batten for the facade panel; it's never good to place wood directly against stone.

I would do the same except for the foam, using a facade board from one of the insulation manufacturers instead. Putting foam on the house and making it so tight doesn't appeal to me and probably not to the houses either.

Cellplast or styrofoam if you will, is windproof but not diffusion tight.
Check the major manufacturers' websites and you'll see.
