Hello
I have bought a house from the late '70s, and in the basement, there is an old stove. I am considering replacing it with a newer version, preferably one that takes air from the outside.

I have watched various videos, and it looks fairly simple to install a stove. When you buy a stove, does it come with an instruction manual for installation? Is it difficult to install it yourself?

I plan to use the existing structure, i.e., remove the old stove and chimney and install a new chimney. How do I demolish the old chimney? It's a pipe with insulation around it, is a reciprocating saw what's needed?

Installing a stove and chimney can certainly be done by yourself with the help of another person. Demolishing the old one is a bit harder to predict, as it depends on what type it is and how it is positioned (straight up through the roof or out the side of the house). The new chimney can also vary in difficulty to install. It's easiest if it stands directly on the stove and then goes straight up. The intake for combustion air is also easier since it involves cold air.

ok, thanks. The old one goes straight up, however, I will likely need to tear up a wall in the living room on the second floor to access the stove. I'll get back with pictures when I have the house.
