I have replaced a window with a pair of doors, and thus got a large opening in the floor that needs to be covered. Does anyone have tips on the type of board/material that would look best to cover this opening with? I don't want to use the same pine planks as the existing floor, crosswise. It's too much hassle to saw out and lower to the same level. I'm thinking about a board no more than 10mm thick that can lie on top of the existing floor and meet the threshold of the door.

An oak slice maybe?

Yes, I've had that thought too. But I'm wondering if oak will go well with both the pine floor and the door. Are there wide thin oak boards?
