According to the installation instructions, one should cut out a "notch" from the gutter where the downspouts then meet up.
However, I have seen in some places that two parallel cuts have been made and then knocked up in the gutter.
Are there any advantages to the second mentioned method over the first?
Or why do some metalworkers do it this way?
I would have done as the supplier recommends. Lindab shows, for example, in their instructional video that you should take up a "V" or wedge as you call it. =)
However, I don't know if your alt.2 is better or worse.
