I am planning to install a patio door in the living room, between the windows.
The house is a log house that was later bricked in the 50s-60s.
Can the brick handle it if I open it up?

Can a door frame support the weight of the bricks, or does it need to be relieved above?

Exterior view of a brick house facade with two windows, questioning the structural integrity for installing a patio door between the windows.

The door frame cannot handle the weight, and I don't think the facade can handle that opening either.

Do you solve it by placing a beam over the door then?

The easiest would be to replace one of the windows with a patio door. Just knock/saw away the wall below the window and install. Maybe a bit worse, but incredibly much easier and cheaper.

Fred Vom Jupiter, we have considered that option as well.
Seems like that will be the solution, looking for a patio door without a center doorpost, would be great!
