Hello everyone out there
I have an old farm in Skåne with walls made of mudbrick and four layers of brick at the bottom.
Now there is a window 120 by 135 cm, which will be replaced by a double door to the terrace.
The window will be removed and the opening widened to 140 cm by 210 cm high.
The current window is at a height of 192 cm.
I have placed props on each side, how do I raise the opening?
The hole should be 20 cm higher upward.
Do I put an iron beam across at about 213 cm height and notch it into the mudbrick?
I know that mudbrick is fine as long as it isn't disturbed, but when you start chiseling and cutting, it tends to crack easily.
How do I prevent the 60 cm above the window from collapsing?
Outside on the 70 cm thick outer wall is a cornice that I don't want to destroy.
I will build up with leca blocks on the inside to get a smooth wall where I can hang cabinets.
This can't be done on the old wall as I don't want to plaster it and the leca creates a slightly warmer outer wall?
Leaving 5 cm between the old and new wall.
Can someone give me advice? Old wall with existing window, surrounded by cracked plaster and stone, with props on each side. Room prepared for window-to-door conversion.

I have an old farm in Skåne where the walls are built of lime-stone and brick, four layers at the bottom.

The hole needs to be 20 cm higher upwards.
Should I place an iron beam across at a height of approximately 213 cm and chisel it into the lime-stone?
I know that lime-stone is good as long as it is not disturbed, but once you start hammering and carving, it begins to crack easily.
How do I prevent what's above the window, 60 cm, from collapsing?
On the outside of the 70 cm thick outer wall is a cornice that I do not want to destroy.
I will build up the inside with Leca blocks to get a smooth wall where I can hang cabinets.
This cannot be done on the old wall as I do not want to plaster it, and Leca does provide a slightly warmer outer wall?
I leave 5 cm between the old and new wall.

Hello, how did you solve this?

Hi, how did you solve this?
Hi,
I supported the roof and 3 beams for the ceiling and truss.
I routed with a large blade on a sturdy angle grinder through the wall first from the inside then from the outside.
Then I routed grooves horizontally 25 cm out to the right and left where the window was and inserted a steel beam across at the correct height plus about 4 cm. It crumbled a bit but I had to build it up again with leca blocks from the outside and inside.
It worked out well. But when I used the angle grinder it smoked incredibly much, stone gravel clay mortar etc. It became dusty throughout the whole house. Even though I used a face mask, it got into my throat. It was done in the spring, so I had everything open.
Are you about to do the same thing
Install a taller door?
Best regards, Peter.

Yes, we are planning to install higher doors and windows - and also raise the adobe walls! In Höllviken!

Feel free to get in touch if you're interested in helping.

Hi
Please take a photo of it and show us all here.
Outside and inside if you want, of the wall and the hole you've made.
Are you going to build up with leca blocks?

Happy to help

Best regards, Peter.

Hi, how's it going with the door and window in the clay brick wall?
Have you started demolishing the wall?
