Just bought an inspection hatch and I'm wondering how to install it (see image below). Is it just a matter of "pressing" it in place? How should the "tabs" on the side be positioned, should they point straight up as in the image or should they be bent in some direction?

Inspection hatch with side tabs pointing up, placed on a tabletop.

I'll make an educated guess myself;

the flärparna should be folded down along and bent slightly outward to press against the plaster? :)

I can't figure out how to attach this to the ceiling, how do you do it?

I had glued it and bent the tabs 90 degrees. Alternatively, attach the tabs to a stud if possible.

Thank you for your reply, Nyfniken.

Yes, it might be that I will have to glue it. Unfortunately, there isn't enough space to access and screw above the ceiling.

The strange thing, however, is that it was claimed that it would just be a matter of pressing this on and that no adhesive would be needed..?

But, isn't it meant to be mounted with the flaps in some way? I have the same flaps on mine - bought at Hornbach. I've found the German original installation instructions, and it roughly says "attach the hatch in an appropriate way."

"The four moving wall anchors are adapted to the circumstances and attached to the wall or
ceiling. The gap between the wall/ceiling and mounting frame can be filled if required."

Hmm. It's a single layer of drywall in the ceiling. Any good glue you recommend, or does regular mounting adhesive like PL400 work well?

Hi

For these panels, there are usually 4 metal fittings included that you clamp between the panel and the plaster. Weren't there any of those included?

A metal hatch on top of a cardboard box, partially covered in plastic wrap.

Nah, just a slot like this.

Okay, but they are probably just a variant of the classic Hila-lucka.
The metal tabs on the sides should be folded down over the drywall, and the holes are likely for 1, 2 or 3-layer drywall.

If you have trouble mounting, they always work with glue as well.

In the end, I just folded out the tabs on the side to create some pressure against the edge of the plaster. Then, if I remember correctly, I applied a bead of glue, and it held really well. I think it was either PL or some other construction adhesive; they're really strong these days.

Best regards, N
