Hi

I have an indoor staircase that lacks a railing on the side of the lower half. The railing is now going to be built. Attached are pictures of my plan where the green represents the stairs, walls, and other existing elements, while the white represents the railing I will build.

The posts are 45x45
The end post is 75x75
The bottom rail is 21x45
The top rail is 15x45
The railing is 21x95

My idea is to mount the posts on the bottom and top rail, and then set the piece in place. It is secured downward and to the side at the top of the stairs. After that, the end post is put in place, secured in the green area at the bottom. Finally, the railing is put in place by screwing it in from underneath through the top rail. Wood glue is also used everywhere.

Do you have any thoughts? Am I way off? Will the railing hold?

  • Indoor staircase with a proposed railing design. Green represents existing structure; white indicates the new railing to be built, including posts and handrail.
  • Indoor staircase with green walls and a newly planned white railing structure, including posts and balusters, shown in a sketch format.
  • Indoor staircase with a proposed white railing design, showing dimensions of posts, handrails, and placement on green staircase structure.
  • 3D model of a staircase railing design with white vertical balusters and green stairs, showcasing the planned construction of the side railing.
  • Design sketch of a staircase railing plan, highlighting green for existing structures and white for new railing components including posts and handrails.
It should hold if you anchor it properly at both ends.
