I am planning a "lusthus"/pergola/gazebo with a tile roof, which will be about 3.3x3.3 meters in size.

The idea is that the structure will be supported by four corner posts. What looks best to the eye is if these are 170x170, but it is completely unnecessary for the load-bearing capacity to have posts that thick. 95x95 is sufficient without any problems.

The question is how to best give these posts the illusion of being 170x170? One idea is to attach some sort of spacer about 45 mm thick to the posts, and then 22x170 paneling on them, with the planed surface outward to give the impression of a solid panel. Screw heads can then be filled in before painting.

Does anyone have any other tips?

I would have bought 170x170 posts directly instead. Feels like the cost will be about the same and it will be significantly easier. The result will probably be nicer too. :)

Is it enough with 4 pcs 145x22 nailed/screwed into a square tube?
If it has to be 170 mm, you need to buy 170 and cut off 22 mm.
