How should I plaster interior walls in the basement? I've been watching videos, but there seems to be a big difference in tradition between Sweden and, for example, England. Here, the plaster is applied and then leveled with a straightedge. In England, it is looser, like yogurt, and is applied evenly directly with a float. Are both methods available in Sweden, or do we only have the kind of plaster that is "thrown" on and leveled?

I'm in the process of removing old plaster/putty that has emulsified with wallpaper and wallpaper paste. It sometimes comes off in sheets. What's left is sandy/dusty plaster on mesh. It's well-adhered but gets dusty when I touch it. As I understand, it should be fine to plaster over it.

  • Basement room with unfinished walls, including partially removed plaster and boxes on the floor. A vacuum cleaner is visible near a central pillar.
  • Shadow of a person on a basement wall with patchy, uneven plaster surface, revealing areas of older plaster beneath.
  • Interior basement wall with removed plaster, revealing a rough, sandy surface. A wooden tool leans against the wall, illustrating renovation preparation.
