Do you nail 100x45 studs in the ceiling?

If you are going to attach a 100mm stud vertically, you will probably need to pre-drill and screw..........

Well, it was a problem I never thought about. Might sound silly but oh well.
It should be positioned at a height of 100mm.
And they need to stay in place afterwards as well.

Is toe nailing not good enough?

What kind of screw should be used then?

Coach screw or is that unnecessarily ambitious?

No, French might be a bit too much, there are long "thin" screws that would work great, check out this page: http://www.kplast.se/tak_skruv.asp and look at the sixth model from the left, it is actually for metal, but it also pulls like hell in wood. Available in lengths up to 250mm. Try to get hold of something like that, and you have the solution.

Feel free to call and talk to k-plast, and maybe you can buy screws from them, or maybe they know where you can get hold of them.......

Aha ok.

The concern I'm pondering is whether the rule will not come flush against the rafter. With fully threaded screws, any distance between the boards might be maintained.
If you then pre-drill enough so that the threads won't attach to the rule (the one that should go there), will the screw head be able to hold the rule in place?

So you should attach the beams flush against the rafters?

In that case, some type of bracket might be preferable.

If it doesn't have to be 100mm then go with double 45s => 90mm!

That way you can still use spikpikka/normalskruva/handjaga :)

Yes, that was the idea from the start. I realized early on that it would be more complicated to nail thicker beams in the ceiling, had many thoughts about not using a whole beam at 100mm, or if they are now 95mm (it doesn't matter).

But for some reason, I ordered 100x45.

Now I'm standing here with my beard in the mailbox.

In the end, it's not harder than finding a screw long enough, some bracket, or whatever else can be recommended. Sure, I can drive in a 150mm nail but I'm not sure that 50mm is enough to hold the beams in place and consequently the weight that will hang from them. Or skråspika, but then will the beam itself crack and fall down.

But maybe I've overthought it and created problems that don't exist.

If you drill the right size of the hole, the head will hold sufficiently; in the worst case, you can remove the screw and drive it in again, then the rule will stay in the correct position.

Biltema has long screws with torx or allen head at a good price. You should definitely screw and not nail (when nailing, 2/3 of the nail should be in the fastening material). Also, keep in mind that the screw should run freely in the beam you are mounting. So, you need to first drill with a large drill (20mm) and then a size 2 mm larger than the screw. Otherwise, brackets are an excellent tip but more expensive. Feel free to glue the beams as well, and they'll hold like a rock.

It got damaged.

And used 45x45 fixed in roof truss and stud.

Then there are interior walls, additional vertical studs, etc.
Perhaps another proof that one shouldn't think too much and create unnecessary worries all the time..
