The previous owners of my apartment had split a wall in half to make room for a shelf. I have removed the shelf and want to fix the wall. I thought I would buy plasterboards and nail (screw?) them on and then fill so that it looks nice. Is there anything specific I need to consider?

Bonus question: I want to install a cabinet rail along the floor on the other side of this wall. Can I do that even if there are no horizontal studs? Is it enough to attach the rail to the two vertical studs and then to the wood panel in the middle?
