Hello! I need to hang a roof box in the garage. It is a garage row belonging to the community association - and I'm not allowed to drill or nail there. There are wooden beams in the ceiling - but they run in the "wrong" direction for my purpose since I want to hang the roof box across the beams, right above the car.
What I'm pondering is if I can somehow hang four short ropes as marked in the picture (which is a photo of the garage in question). That is, it forms four circular ropes that just hang loosely on the wooden beams. And in these ropes, attach two tension straps going in the same direction as the beams. Then I might be able to use the tension straps to lift the roof box.
Do you understand what I mean?
Is there a smarter solution? (all the ready-made solutions you buy in the store are based on having to attach brackets with screws - so I can't use those).
Thanks for the tip. Good idea with four short tension straps.
Doesn't it feel a bit uncertain to have the box hanging over the nice car in some tension straps?
Who knows when the "locks" on them will release?
I think there should be a more permanent secure suspension.
I have the roof box hanging in 4 tension straps from biltema, same direction on the rafters as you. No problems, just pull it up so that the straps are tight, and it stays in place. It has been hanging like that for quite a while now.
One can secure the "lasten" with a solid rope/strap so the risk is only when hoisting up the box.
The linked tip has a winch on only one side, i.e., the box tends to tip over...
Doesn't it feel a bit unsafe to have the box hanging over the nice car with just a few ratchet straps? Who knows when the "locks" on them might give way?
With decent ratchet straps, the locks won't give way on their own, but if you're worried, you can take the "excess strap" for an extra turn and finish with a good solid knot.
