I'm going to cast stairs myself and I'm wondering how to get the color of the concrete a bit nicer than the really dull color (beige) that the cement bags from Byggmax give?

Ideally, I want a slightly darker shade, e.g., dark gray. Can you mix in pigment when mixing by hand? I read something about needing an additive for this and that you should buy pre-mixed bags. I've also considered Finja's "white cement." What color does white cement get if you mix it with regular casting sand?

Is there perhaps a brand of cement that provides a nicer, darker color?

It is possible to buy pigmented water glass, though I am not familiar with the selection.

Concrete stations sell colored concrete, e.g., black, blue, and red. However, it tends to be quite expensive because they have to be meticulous with cleaning afterward. But it might be possible to trade for some pigment there with a sandwich cake or something similar. With black pigment, you can surely experiment to find a suitable dark gray shade. You'll need to consistently stick to a recipe if you have to mix several times to ensure the whole staircase has the same color.
