As the title states.
How do you finish a baseboard where the end grain must be visible?

-45-degree mini shim/wedge?
-Paint?
-Should you mitre the end at 45 degrees?
-Other method?

Miter 45° and add a strip of molding as a finish... definitely the nicest

Just paint, no point in overworking that little thing.
 
I did as the previous post. Turned out well.

I would saw halfway through, like this viewed from above:

And then painted, of course.
In the above image in #5, you can see how the paint has been scraped off in the sharp corner.
