Hello, as I need to open up the hallway floor to get rid of creaking in the floor, I have some questions regarding the chipboard floor panels.
The floor is in a narrow hallway and from what I can see, the panels extend under a wall (at the other end they start at the wall, so I can see the edge of them there). So if I need to open them up and possibly replace them, how do I proceed?
I don’t want to touch the wall.
I assume that I then need to splice onto the joists underneath so I have something to secure the new panels to.

Isn't it enough to screw through the chipboards into the joists to eliminate creaking? A neighbor did so with good results. The joints between the chipboards can be treated with wood glue, possibly slightly diluted with some water so that it really gets into the gap.
Yes, I thought I would try that first. But I want to be a few steps ahead in the process in case it's not enough, so I can plan the work on how to proceed.Claes Sörmland said:
