How to cut chipboard in the best way?
I have built a workbench so now it is fully framed. Just need to put on the chipboard. It needs to be cut to the right measurements. I am a complete beginner and have never cut a chipboard before. How do I make sure it doesn't crack and that it stays straight? Should I draw a line and then go with the jigsaw as best as I can? Or should I borrow my neighbor's circular saw and use that? Should I place the board on sawhorses? What tips do you have?
Yes, place the board on a pair of sturdy trestles, you might also clamp it down with a couple of clamps. If you borrow the circular saw, I recommend using a suitably long board as a support, which should also be clamped down with a couple of clamps. Exactly how far from the cut it should be, you will have to measure with the saw.
Then start the saw so that it reaches full speed before you press it against the board and begin cutting. Maintain a steady but not hard pressure and let it cut through the board along the support.
Remember to always unplug/remove the battery before you touch the blade or move the blade guard. Use hearing protection and possibly glasses, as it will create a lot of dust.

Is it silly to use a fogsvans?zarkov said:

If you borrow the circular saw, I recommend taking a suitably long piece of wood as a guide, and this should also be clamped with a couple of clamps. Exactly how far from the cut it should be positioned you have to measure with the saw.
Then start the saw so that it reaches full speed before pressing it against the board and start cutting. Apply a firm but not hard pressure and let it cut through the board along the guide.
Remember to always unplug/remove the battery before handling the blade or moving the blade guard. Use ear protection and possibly goggles, it generates a lot of dust.
